Blog #6

Jenkins talks about how social networking sites are helpful learning tools. Jenkins states :

Collective intelligence can be seen as an alternative source
of media power. We are learning how to use that power through our
day-to-day interactions within convergence culture. Right now, we are
mostly using this collective power through our recreational life, but
soon we will be deploying those skills for more “serious” purposes (jenkins 4).

Collective intelligence is a way where all of the people involved in the internet are able to interact with each other and provide answers to problems. Wikipedia being the main example of it, but others sites like 99designs.com relies on input from hundreds of graphic designers. Weinberger believes that information is miscellaneous and i can come from several users, this means, users se the content they want to see in the internet.

  1. The quote you pull out from Jerkins is a great supporter and overall sum-up of what he was saying. I also thought your examples such as Wiki went well when associating both guys to find similarities of both beliefs. Overall I thought you could have slightly gone a little more in depth but great job. You summed it up and wrote it very well!

  2. Nice quote. I agree w/ Simmone here, I too would've been curious to hear your voice in here a bit more making a few more connections between the ideas (and maybe pointing to a few more). He talks about convergence, collective intelligence, and participatory culture in pretty great detail so I'm curious why you only focused on one o these? Also, the connection to Weinberger is a good start, but I feel like you needed a few more sentences to really to the heart of the matter as right now it feels like you're starting to dig into the connections but then stop short. Thanks.

  3. Yup, everyone working together collectively sharing their individual knowledge for something greater is the key to collective intelligence. You got it right.
